VOTF Bridgeport ignores sex abuse victims in Haiti

Daniel,

I too share Paul Kendrick's bewilderment regarding your association's decision to ignore the plight of the children of Haiti who maintain such close ties to your community. Forget about the One Church and the universality of the Church, these children have been directly supported by your neighbors and they remain, at present, with no lifeline. On their behalf, we have asked you to intervene.

It must be much easier to ignore these cries because you can't hear them from so many miles away. Then again, perhaps you don't hear the cries of the children in your own parishes who held the paten when you received the host on your tongue or served as choir members or played on the CYO basketball team. Have you even heard their cries?

I can't think of any reason to not make an attempt to acknowledge these children and the harm done to them and to reach out in some fashion to show your support.

Are you afraid your friends who are members of the Order of Malta will not like you anymore? Or the Fairfield University family?

Are you afraid the Jesuits won't come around and participate in your meetings?

Do you think it's better to follow Paul Lakeland's lead as your resident expert?

Are you more interested in shoring up the institutional church than going back 2000 years and replicating the example of Christ?

Why won't you help and why all the secrets? These kids are hurting and have been thrown back to the dumps to fend for themselves. What kind of Catholicism do your practice?

Best regards,

Michael Sweatt

P.S. You may think Paul Kendrick is the only person watching and waiting for some kind of action from your group. I assure you, many others join him in his observations and disbelief.
