Citadelle] Fairfield University maintains abandonment of child sex abuse victims in Haiti.

Dear President von Arx,

On several occasions during the past two years, you have publicly expressed your willingness to provide aid and comfort to the boys in Haiti who were sexually abused by Douglas Perlitz, former Executive Director of Project Pierre Toussaint in Cap Haitian.

During this same time period, I have pleaded with you to, at the very least, provide small amounts of funding so that the boys who were abused by Perlitz would have something to eat each day, a safe place to sleep, shoes for school and access to medical treatment.

In response, you have done nothing - absolutely nothing to bring comfort and aid to these hurting and suffering abuse victims.

Sadly, I am aware of statements made by Fairfield University alumni, staff and faculty members who are saying that Fairfield University has no legal obligation to do anything for the boys who were abused.

But, you and I, President von Arx, know what really transpired at the school and am certain that, after a careful examination of your conscience, you, too, will conclude that Fairrfield University has a compelling moral obligation to assist the boys who were abused.

On Monday, we need to register the boys in school but have no money to pay the almost $9,000 for tuition. The boys are in desperate need.

I have included (below) a letter I sent yesterday to Joseph Miller, President of the American Association of the Order of Malta, in which I have detailed the cost of tuition at several schools in Cap Haitian.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,Paul KendrickFairfield University '72

Joseph Miller

President
Order of Malta American Association, USA

New Canaan, Connecticut

Dear Mr. Miller,

When I spoke with you a few months ago about the desperate needs of the abuse victims in Haiti, you said to me, "Got the check right here in my pocket, Paul," referring to an amount of money already approved by the Order of Malta's national board of directors to assist the sex abuse victims in Haiti. Sadly, (and unbelievably) and under your leadership, the American Association of Malta, USA has not provided one single penny to help clothe, feed or educate the boys who were sexually abused by Douglas Perlitz at Project Pierre Touissant in Cap Haitian.

One would have thought that, at the very least in the immediate aftermath of Perlitz's guilty plea, the citizens of Fairfield County would have heard a loud chorus of "mea culpas" from the members of Connecticut Malta who, in their ignorant and blind defense of Perlitz, not only called the victims liars, but helped destroy the school by sending a letter to wealthy donors in which they disparaged and berated the remaining board members who were trying their best to protect the children in Haiti from a child molester monster named Doug Perlitz.

Let's not forget the names of these board members who destroyed the school: Jeannie and Thomas Tisdale, Madeline and Philip Lacavaro, Rev. Paul Carrier, S.J. and Hope Carter.

Carter is one of your more notable members. Yet, Carter traveled to Haiti for the sole purpose of secreting Doug's two computers out of Haiti. She brought two new computers with her to replace the ones she took. She obstructed justice. She was attempting to destroy evidence. Think about this, Joe. Carter was more concerned about protecting a child molester than she was concerned about the boys who were raped and sodomized. Same can be said for the Tisdales and the Lacavaros.

So here I am again, Mr. Miller, once again pleading with you for financial help. We need approximately $9,000 to get the boys registered in school and make tuition payments. This amount of money is less than the cost of one table ($10,000) at your recent Malta fundraiser for Catholic schools in Bridgeport. So, if you still "got the check" right there in your pocket, Joe, let's get these kids back into school ASAP.

The money is needed now. School starts on Monday. Please contact me. You are more than welcome to pay the schools directly. For your information, here is a partial list of the schools and enrollment costs.
