Investigative reporting by Haitian journalist, Cyrus Sibert, leads to U.S. ICE/Homeland Security investigation of child sexual abuse by U.S. citizen, Michael Geilenfeld, Director of St. Joseph's Homes in Haiti

In a separate case, Haitian journalist Cyrus Sibert was the first to report the sexual abuse of children by Douglas Perlitz, former Executive Director of Project Pierre Toussaint in Cap Haitian, Haiti. In September 2009, ICE/Homeland Security investigators arrested Perlitz on charges of child sexual abuse in Haiti. In December 2010, Perlitz was sentenced to almost 20 years in federal prison in U.S. District Criminal Court in Connecticut. In April 2011, the first of 21 civil lawsuits was filed in U.S. District Court in Connecticut on behalf of 21 Haitian child sexual abuse victims.
