Since President Martelly took office, there have been some fundamental reforms in the orphanage and nursery sector in Haiti. The prevalence of child trafficking in this country has motivated the Martelly-Lamothe administration to implement a policy of enhanced oversight in this sector to protect Haitian children. Specifically, the government has built shelters while stepping up supervision and streamlining control procedures for the orphanages around the country.
As a result, the IBESR is able to give proper attention to young boys who were allegedly continually abused at the Saint Joseph Home for Boys for over 25 years. On several occasions, over many years there were protests to speak up against the pervasive practices of abuses and sexual exploitations of the children who attended the Saint Joseph Home for Boys Center. There were several protest movements by young men attending the Saint Joseph Home for Boys center in 1983, 1991 and 2005. In these protests, the boys spoke out against the unacceptable sexual practices they were subjected to by M. Michael Geilenfeld. In a visit to the United States in 1995, some young dancers from St. Joseph center made several statements in U.S media denouncing the sexual abuses they have sustained from M. Geilenfeld. The alleged victims filed a complaint at the U.S. Consulate in Port-au-Prince against M. Geilenfeld, their alleged abuser. Ms. Dejean of IBERS acknowledges that she was informed of the situation at least on 4 different occasions.
Despite false statements made by Heart With Haiti, mentioning in a letter that it was on February 2004 that IBERS decided not to reauthorize the Orphanage, in a letter by Mrs. Villedrouin one can read the following statement:
"The management of the Social Welfare and Research Institute (IBESR), following a report on November 25th, 2013 from the Department of Social Works, has determined that the children under your care, in violation of the decrees of December 22nd, 1971 and November 4th, 1983 and given the persistent allegations of abuses, are in a vulnerable situation, and their safety at risk."
This suggests that an investigation was conducted in 2013 and that the decision to move the children was based on the findings of that investigation.
We call your attention on several key facts:
1 - Several former young men of the St. Joseph Home for Boys living in Haiti and abroad have filed a formal complaint against M. Geilenfeld for: "breach of trust, sexual assault, rape, physical abuse, fraud, abuse of authority, drug abuse and illicit drug use, sexual molestation, and finally for human trafficking for sexual exploitation ;"
2 - The Haitian justice decided to press charge against M. Geilenfeld for "Public Indecent Exposure and Rebellion;"
3 - An arrest warrant has been issued against M. Geilenfeld on July 5th, 2014;
4 - Whereas today Heart With Haiti, in its letter, recognizes that its operating permit has been suspended, on May 5th, 2014, M. Geilenfeld, under oath, has stated before a Haitian judge that he had an operating license.
This NGO only evolves in falsehoods and corruption. As additional evidence, it should be highlighted that Heart With Haiti enjoys an excellent relationship with the pro-pedophilia organization NAMBLA (North American Men and Boys Love Association). Should it be reminded that at the funeral of NAMBLA's founder, funds were collected for the benefit of St. Joseph Orphanage, considered as NAMBLA's chapter in Haiti.
Heart With Haiti has a deep hatred against MM. Cyrus Sibert and Paul Kendrick for demanding that their alleged crimes be brought before the court so that justice be served. MM. Sibert and Kendrick are demanding justice because they know that such criminal practices against children have lasting and devastating consequences. These young victims deserve help, support and guidance.
As it should be impossible for a person, continuously charged, and against whom there are several witnesses and tons of evidences to be able to fundraise on behalf of children and an orphanage by tapping on a network of donors in the United States. As a result, we believe that Hearts With Haiti is no longer qualified to collect funds in the names of Haitian children.
