Clarifications on evacuation procedures for U.S. citizens
Joint Information Center (JIC Haiti)
· At this time, the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince is evacuating only U.S. citizens.
· U.S. citizen children may travel to the United States with one non-U.S. citizen adult escort, preferably a parent or other family member.
· Only one non-U.S. citizen adult will be allowed to escort the U.S. child to the United States.
· Two or more U.S. citizen children in the same family can be accompanied by only one non-U.S. citizen escort.
· Remember, parents of the U.S. citizen child MUST give formal permission for the named escort to accompany the child.
· Remember, the parents of the child must agree to repay the United States government the airfare costs of both the child and the escort.
