OPEN LETTER May 19, 2010 Jeffrey Von Arx, S.J. President Fairfield University Fairfield, Connecticut Dear President Von Arx, I hope you can understand that abuse victims and their supporters care deeply about the well being of the boys who were sexually abused at Project Pierre Toussaint. People want to know what Is being done for the victims by Fairfield University, the Jesuit Province and, of course, the Haiti Fund's board of directors. In a recent news story you suggested that you are still waiting for the Haiti Fund to tell you what they need. Am I to understand that you have not had any communication with the Haiti Fund regarding financial assistance? Sadly (and strangely) Michael McCooey, Haiti Fund Chairman, refuses to provide the public with any news or updates regarding progress in Haiti. The boys are in desperate need of professional counseling services. Therapy and counseling should have been made available to the victims in 2008 when they first reported their abuse by Perlitz. It's now almost two years later and nothing in this regard has been accomplished. Please, take a moment, President Von Arx, to respond to the above questions. As always, I am available to assist you in helping the boys in Haiti. Sincerely, Paul Kendrick Fairfield University '72 |
