VOTF Bridgeport ignores sex abuse victims in Haiti.

Co-Chair
Voice of the Faithful
Bridgeport, CT

Dear Mr. Sullivan,

Some of us are working very hard to bring justice to the boys in Haiti who were sexually abused by Doug Perlitz.

I, for one, am committed to helping the victims.

You and your VOTF group, on the other hand, have remained aloof and disinterested, even though the issue has been highly publicized in your area.

Of course, you have no obligation to involve yourself with this or any other situation, but it would be helpful to know why you have decided to ignore the plight of the sex abuse victims in this particular case.

Perhaps, because of several favorable relationships you already have, it would be uncomfortable for you to confront the three major groups that have links to the school in Haiti: Connecticut Order of Malta, Fairfield University and the Jesuits of New England.

I am aware that your VOTF group works very closely with Dr. Paul Lakeland and his Catholic Studies forum at Fairfield University.

In many ways, my asking you these questions is reminiscent of my asking similar questions to the bishop here in Maine.

The difference, I hope, will be that you will respond.

I am sure you have examined your group conscience closely before concluding that you will not support the sex abuse victims in Haiti In a meaningful way.

What will be most interesting, though, is how and why you came to the decision to be silent. You have somehow chosen to look the other way while innocent, suffering children are being mistreated and bullied by the  prominent Catholic powers that be in your own back yard.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Paul Kendrick
