Looking forward to 2012 on WGXC!   Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. [Unable to display image] So much to look forward to in 2012 with WGXC 90.7-FM! Hi friends, Thanks for bringing in the new year with WGXC: Hands-on Radio!  After just ten months on the air, we are so excited about what lies ahead. What are we looking forward to in 2012? We'll be expanding our use of the WGXC Catskill studio at the Catskill Community Center, opening our studio in Acra, growing our staff and Radio Council, and celebrating WGXC's first birthday party, among other things. In the next few weeks we'll be introducing a slew of new locally-produced programs: an Agricultural Policy series produced by The Greenhorns; "Eat Food or Die" with Chef Hugh Horner; A Women's Health Program with Dr. Nancey Rosensweig; and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Economist," with Dr. Thomas Masterson. And soon we'll send you our Winter Workshops Calender -- announcing workshops in oral history, radio documentary, writing for radio, media democracy and more. We're excited about 120 Hours for John Cage, an open call for radio works co-presented with The John Cage Trust on the occasion of the Cage Centennial and free103point9 (WGXC's parent organization)'s 15th anniversary year. All that - and so much more! If you're as excited as we are, it's not too late to support WGXC  Wishing you a safe and happy New Year, the WGXC family Li Le, Li Tan: Paul Kendrick Jan. 8, 2012: 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The Lighthouse Relay project celebrates the significant contribution to both saving seafarers' lives and the development of global communication systems that lighthouses have made throughout history. The significance of lighthouses to coastal regions is, in part, due to that history but also due to the emotional response their architectural prominence creates. As well known landmarks their austere beauty combines with the practicality of their signals and light to produce a recognized worldwide phenomenon. Many existing lighthouses originated as ancient beacon sites, reflecting our human desire to communicate and a historic connection, a communicative DNA, with sites that enabled this.
