Here's a summary of the letter that V&F's attorneys sent to ToutHaiti:
On February 11, 2014, the law firm Richman Greer, located in Miami, Florida, dispatched a letter to Patrick Morisseau, the owner of the website www.ToutHaiti.com, on behalf of their clients Jean Marie Vorbe and V&F Construction, S.A. In the letter, the attorneys affirm that they will take legal action against Morisseau and ToutHaiti for the defamatory article, published on ToutHaiti's website, regarding bribes purportedly paid by V&F to the Haitian Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, in exchange for road construction contracts in Haiti. The letter highlights that the author of the article, Emmanuel Roy, is a convicted felon who was recently sentenced by a federal court in New York to 87 months of incarceration. According to V&F's attorneys, Morisseau and ToutHaiti failed to conduct any meaningful investigation regarding the accuracy of an article written by a criminal. Had Morisseau and ToutHaiti bothered to conduct any investigation, they would have quickly realized that the statements regarding the purported bribes are entirely false. As a result, the attorneys have given Morisseau and ToutHaiti five days to publish a retraction and an apology on ToutHaiti's website. If Morisseau and ToutHaiti fail to comply by February 17, 2014, they will be met with a defamation lawsuit in federal court in Florida, and face "substantial punitive damages."
