Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino issued a firm rebuke of Trump’s inauguration speech, rejecting any suggestion that the U.S. has influence over the Panama Canal. “The Canal is and will continue to be under Panamanian control with permanent neutrality. No nation interferes with its administration.” Mulino emphasized that the Canal was not a concession but the result of generational struggles, warning that Panama will defend its sovereignty.
