December 15, 2009 Amber Gray Restorative Resources www.restorativeresources.net Haiti/USA Dear Ms. Gray, As a long time advocate for victims of child sex abuse, I am worried about the safety and well being of the boys who have reported to law enforcement officials that they were sexually abused by Douglas Perlitz. The U.S. judicial system will sort out all the evidence and testimony brought against Perlitz but, in the interim, there is heightened concern that influential persons, like yourself, are defending Perlitz in a way that implies that the victims are liars. I mean, after all, if you have concrete evidence that proves Doug innocent of all child abuse allegations, then you have an obligation to present your evidence to U.S. and Haitian authorities. However, what's really worrisome is that your defense of Doug is really based on nothing more than "gut feelings." If this is so, then your actions are irresponsible and place the victims in grave danger of retribution by those who blame them for Doug's absence and the closing of the school. In a September 8, 2008 letter to financial supporters of Project Pierre Toussaint, you and eleven other signers of the letter stated in part: "....We want you to know that until such time as there is something more credible than inference, innuendo, and paid for testimony, we will believe in Doug's innocence." In addition, the same letter states: "American human rights observers and trauma professionals (including Amber Gray) all of whom have lived and worked in Haiti for many years and who understand the Haitian culture do not believe these allegations." In conclusion, Ms. Gray, would it now be possible for you to share the evidence you have gathered that proves Perlitz's innocence and caused you to sign the aforementioned letter? If the federal grand jury that indicted Perlitz did not review or know all the facts, then it is incumbent upon those of us who seek justice to bring this information to their attention. Sincerely, Paul Kendrick Freeport, Maine 207 838 1319 |
