Chairman of Hearts with Haiti says kids in Haiti are safe.

Mr. Kendrick,

The Board of Trustees of Hearts with Haiti supports without reservation Michael Geilenfeld and the staff of the St. Joseph Family.   We are confident that the children in the St. Joseph Family have safe, loving environments to call home.   A thorough government investigation was conducted into allegations of child abuse, and Michael was found to be innocent and was allowed to continue running the Family's homes.

In Hearts with Haiti's more than 10 years of raising money and providing resources for the St. Joseph Family, our board members have made more than 100 trips to the home(s), spending time with the children and the staff.   We have even had a board member live there for several months.  We have always witnessed a healthy and loving environment in which children can grow, learn, and develop into productive, self-sufficient adults.

The children in the St. Joseph Family are our primary concern, and we are dedicated to ensuring their safety and welfare.   If we had any reason to believe that the young people in Michael Geilenfeld's care had been abused or were at risk of being abused, we would immediately take steps to provide for their safety.

Please understand that the Hearts with Haiti Board of Directors is not the governing body of the St. Joseph Family.  We are a 501c3 whose primary mission is to support the vision and ministry of the St. Joseph Family.   Our role is fund raising and support, not administration.

Sincerely,

Rob Patterson
Vice Chairman
